Nothing tastes quite like fresh produce and finding that special trinket can bring a smile to anybody’s face. In Lancaster County you can eat fresh fruit right off the farm while you browse through homemade baubles or vintage goods. Lancaster has plenty of farmers markets and flea markets tucked in the various towns of Amish country. Here are a few of Lancaster County’s farmers markets and flea markets for a wonderful shopping experience.
Farmer’s Markets in Amish Country
The Bird-in-Hand Farmers Market offers a comfortable shopping experience in an air-conditioned building. Opened on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year, this farmers market is also open on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the Summer and Fall months. Offering locally grown produce, hand rolled pretzels, and homemade crafts this market has plenty of local flavor to bring on home. Find them at 2710 Old Philadelphia Pike.
Find Kauffman’s Fruit Farm and Market while you’re still in Bird-in-Hand for fresh produce off a family farm surrounded by the Amish country side. Offering tasty apples, peaches, cherries, and plums this farmers market is opened Mondays through Saturdays at 3097 Old Philadelphia Pike.
The Village Farm Market is opened Mondays through Saturdays throughout the year. Cakes, pies, and breads are baked on site and sold alongside the freshest of produce. Located in the small village of Hinkletown you can find these delicious homemade goods at 1520 Division Highway in Ephrata PA.
Lancaster County Farmers Market is opened Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in Wayne PA about an hour’s drive from downtown Lancaster. Offering fresh produce, baked goods, and smoked meats this farmer’s market also offers crafts, jewelry, and fresh cut flowers. Find this wonderful farmer’s market at 389 W. Lancaster Avenue.
At Cherry Hill Orchards you can buy produce grown on site or pick your very own fruits right off the trees. Find ripe cherries, peaches, and apples at 400 Long Lane off of Route 324 and 741. Be sure to call ahead to find out harvest times at 717-872-9311.
Finally, but certainly not to be missed, is the Historical Lancaster Central Market, the oldest farmers market in the nation. Open Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday this market sells a variety of produce, baked goods, meats, and handicrafts.
Flea Markets of Lancaster County
Lancaster County often combines flea markets and farmer’s markets for a convenient shopping experience. The Roots and Green Dragon Markets both offer a unique shopping experience within Lancaster County. Roots Country Market is open every Tuesday selling food, collectibles, antiques, and homemade items from over 200 stalls. Located at 705 Graystone Road in Manheim, it is also the oldest family run country market in Lancaster. Green Dragon Market is open on Fridays selling Amish crafts and furniture, homemade trinkets, produce and fresh baked goods. Find this market and its 20 acres of free parking in Ephrata at 955 North State Street.
