Nobody knows for sure how the village of Intercourse PA got its name. Founded in 1754 the village was originally known as Cross Keys after an old tavern. The name however changed to Intercourse in 1814 – possibly it was named after the entrance to a racetrack named Entercourse, perhaps it refers to the joining of two well-known roads, or perhaps it comes from an older meaning of the word. Intercourse once meant fellowship, which is an important part of this agricultural community. Regardless of its name, there’s plenty to do and see in Intercourse PA.
