Getting to Amish Country from the Lancaster Train Station
Lancaster Amtrak Station
Most people arriving in Lancaster County are interested in learning more about Amish culture. However, getting from the Lancaster train station to Amish country often leaves people at a loss. Traveling to Amish country does not need to be difficult though, as there are easy options available for the traveler interested in Amish culture.
Traveling to Amish Country by Bus
One of the best ways to travel throughout Lancaster is by bus. This lets you cover plenty of ground while seeing the scenic countryside. Upon arriving at the Lancaster train station via Amtrak, look for the Red Rose Historic Downtown Trolley. The Trolley stops right at the station and runs roughly every hour from 7:30AM to 6:00PM. A ride should cost $1.50 per trip or $3.25 for an all-day pass. Take the trolley to the Lancaster County Courthouse stop, which is on Duke Street. From here you can either explore Downtown Lancaster or take a short walk to the bus stop at the intersection of Duke Street and Chestnut Street. If you choose to take the bus, grab the Route 13/White Horse bus or the Route 14/Rockvale Square bus. The Chestnut/Duke intersection is the first stop for both of these Eastbound buses; buses leave downtown Lancaster 8 times a day.

Choosing the White Horse Bus when Traveling to Amish Country
The Route 13/White Horse bus travels along historic route 340, making stops at Amish hubs such as Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse. Bird-in-Hand is the third stop along this route, past the Harrisburg Area Community College, and takes about 20 minutes to get to from Downtown Lancaster. You can get a taste of Pennsylvania Dutch culture at this quaint town which boasts farmers’ markets, homemade crafts, and bakeries. The next stop, and only five minutes further down the route is Intercourse. Intercourse is a place where Amish farmers meet to socialize. It offers an Amish theater, buggy rides, and a pretzel factory. You can see more of the Amish countryside as the bus travels through White Horse and ends at Cains.

Traveling on the Rockvale Square Bus
The Route 14/Rockvale Square bus travels along Route 30 past Walmart to the East Towne Center, Rockvale Square, Paradise, and ends in Kinzers. The East Towne Center offers typical chain stores such as Burlington Coat Factory and Red Lobster while the Rockvale Outlets have an Olive Garden and Cracker Barrel. However, stop 6 is only 30 minutes out of Lancaster and will bring you to the scenic Pequea Creek. You can continue exploring Amish country at the end of the line in Paradise, Leaman Place, and Kinzers.
