Travel to Lancaster can be a thorough planning process, or it can be a last minute vacation. Last minute vacations can be fun since you can pack the car with the kids, you and your significant other can just take off at a whim. Sometimes those kinds of one day vacations can be the most fun. Grab a jacket and the car keys, and off you go. Plan it as you go!

If you are not close enough to drive it in a few hours, maybe the best way to get there is by air. The more popular bus companies’ stop in Lancaster and ways to get to the scenic areas exist, but this will take quite a bit of time out of your trip. If you watch for last minute travel deals or motel and travel vacation deals, you may be able to get a reasonable priced flight.

In 2009, Cape Air began flights between Lancaster Airport and Baltimore Washington International airport. I have priced many flights into Lancaster over the years, and more times than not, flights into Baltimore have under priced tickets into Philadelphia or Harrisburg. This may be a good way to get to the county.

If you chose to fly to one of the major airports such as BWI or Philadelphia, car rentals are easy and simple. Directions and access to major highways from both airports are made easy. From either airport, you can be in Lancaster in 90 minutes. Flights into Harrisburg PA will put you about 30 minutes from Lancaster and most attractions such as the Pennsylvania Dutch area, and Hershey PA, home of the chocolate company.

The City of Lancaster is just a little over two hours by car from Washington DC, about 90 minutes from Baltimore, a little over an hour from Philadelphia, and about three hours from New York City. Most of the attractions and places of interest are within 20 minutes of the city, so the time is reasonable. Many people have made day trips to Lancaster County, and have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Quite a few individuals take a long weekend and find a bed and breakfast to stay in. This gives them more time to spend looking at history, experiencing the lifestyle of the community, and taking in the scenery. Once you spend any amount of time here, you will never forget the experience.
